2025 was a significant year for memory culture—and the double anniversary year brings particular responsibility with it. Through support for National Socialist survivors, new initiatives to promote remembrance, the promotion of young voices, and our commitment to human rights and democracy, it was a year of remembrance and action.
The themes of the past year continue to guide us: 80 years since the the end of the Second World War and the 25th anniversary of the EVZ Foundation have provided an opportunity to reflect on our mission and create new initiatives—for humanitarian support and engagement with survivors of the National Socialist regime, for practical approaches to combating antisemitism, Antigypsyism/Anti-Roma Discrimination, racism, and discrimination, for young people and international cooperation, for digital and analog educational programs, and, last but not least, for the question of democratic resilience: In the face of war, social polarization, and increasing political repression, how can we take a stand and strengthen democratic values?

Looking back at 2024 is a worthwhile undertaking because it also opens up new perspectives for the future. Whether supporting survivors of Nazi persecution, amplifying young voices in historical-political education or launching digital campaigns: the EVZ Foundation provides funding where remembrance has an impact and democracy can be strengthened In 2024, a total of 146 projects were supported with EUR 8.8 million in foundation funds, supplemented with over EUR 17 million through third-party funding programs.
The themes of the past year remain highly relevant: how can remembrance promote democratic resilience? How can we strengthen the perspectives of marginalized communities? And how can we shape remembrance in a way that helps transform the present?
Those reading the 2024 Activity Report will not only reflect on a dynamic year, they will also encounter the pressing questions of today and the tasks ahead.
