1. Privacy Policy

The following privacy policy applies to the use of the online services offered by the EVZ Academy – online platform (EVZ Academy for short). The Foundation Remembrance, Responsibility and Future (EVZ) is delighted that you have visited the EVZ Academy and are interested in our work. The protection of your personal data when using the EVZ Academy is very important to us. We would therefore like to inform you in the following text about when we collect which data and how we use it.

The processing of personal data, such as your name, email address, country and, optionally, areas of interest, is always carried out in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation and in compliance with the country-specific data protection regulations applicable to the Foundation Remembrance, Responsibility and Future (EVZ). Through this privacy policy, our institution wishes to inform the public about the nature, scope and purpose of the personal data we collect, use and process. Furthermore, this privacy policy informs data subjects about their rights.

2. EVZ Academy – online platform – registration

The EVZ Academy is based on the learning platform provided by Magh und Boppert GmbH ("Avendoo") and offers various learning opportunities that are available after prior registration via the website https://academy.stiftung-evz.de/.

The EVZ Academy includes learning opportunities, event management and special functions such as learning progress tracking, obtaining certificates, sending personal messages to other users in the community and creating your own content. We use the data processed by the EVZ Academy in accordance with Art. 6 (1) b) GDPR on the basis of the contract concluded between the user and us. 

Through our online offering, we aim to strengthen the purposes of our foundation as enshrined in Section 2 of our foundation law (Law on the Establishment of a Foundation "Remembrance, Responsibility and Future") and to contribute to contemporary education and critical engagement with National Socialism and its consequences.

Furthermore, the online offering provides interaction and community functions, such as communication via a community and other networking activities.

If you would like to use EVZ Academy, you must register by providing your email address as your username, your first and last name, and a password of your choice. You are not required to use your real name; pseudonymous use is possible at . The provision of the aforementioned data is mandatory; all other information is voluntary. We use the double opt-in procedure for registration. This means that you will receive an email in which you must confirm that you are the owner of the email address provided. Registration is complete once you have confirmed. We will send you user-relevant information about your account.

If you use the EVZ Academy, we will store the data required for the fulfilment of the contract until you permanently delete your account. We will also store the voluntary data you provide for the duration of your use of the EVZ Academy, unless you delete it beforehand. You can manage and change all information in the protected member area. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR.

When you use the EVZ Academy, your data may become accessible to other participants in accordance with the purpose you have selected. If you post contributions in public groups, these will be visible to all registered members of the EVZ Academy.

The EVZ Academy can be used by users free of charge.

The Foundation Remembrance, Responsibility and Future (EVZ) has implemented numerous technical and organisational measures to ensure the most complete protection possible of the personal data processed via this online service. Nevertheless, Internet-based data transmissions can generally have security gaps, so that absolute protection cannot be guaranteed. For this reason, every data subject is free to transmit personal data to us by alternative means, for example by telephone.

4. Your rights

You have the following rights to a responsible person with regard to your personal data: 

  • the right to information about the data processed and to a copy,
  • a right to rectification if we process incorrect data about you,
  • a right to erasure, unless there are still exceptions that apply as to why we still store the data, e.g. retention obligations or limitation periods,
  • the right to restrict processing,
  • the right to withdraw consent to data processing at any time,
  • the right to data portability,
  • a right to object to processing in the public interest or for legitimate interests,
  • a right to lodge a complaint with the competent data protection supervisory authority if you believe that we are not processing your data properly.

If you have given your consent to the processing of your data, you can revoke this at any time by sending an email to academy@stiftung-evz.de. Such revocation affects the permissibility of the processing of your personal data after you have notified us of your revocation. The permissibility of the processing of your data up to the time of your revocation remains unaffected.

5. Cookies

a) Description and scope of data processing

Our website uses cookies. Cookies are text files that are stored in the Internet browser or by the Internet browser on the user's computer system. When a user accesses a website, a cookie may be stored on the user's operating system. This cookie contains a characteristic string of characters that enables the browser to be uniquely identified when the website is accessed again. We use cookies on our website that enable us to analyse the surfing behaviour of users. In this way, the following data can be transmitted:

b) Legal basis for data processing

The legal basis for the processing of personal data using technically necessary cookies is Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR. 

The legal basis for the processing of personal data using cookies for analysis purposes is Art. 6 (1) lit. a GDPR, provided that the user has given their consent.

c) Purpose of data processing

The purpose of using technically necessary cookies is to simplify the use of websites for users. Some functions of our website cannot be offered without the use of cookies. For these, it is necessary that the browser is recognised even after a page change. We require cookies for the following applications:

  1. Transfer of language settings
  2. Session control
  3. Consent note

The user data collected by technically necessary cookies is not used to create user profiles.

Analysis cookies are used for the purpose of improving the quality of our website and its content. Analysis cookies tell us how the website is used, enabling us to continuously optimise our offering.

e) Duration of storage, option to object and removal

Cookies are stored on the user's computer and transmit information to our site. As a user, you therefore have full control over the use of cookies. You can deactivate or restrict the transmission of cookies by changing the settings in your internet browser. Cookies that have already been stored can be deleted at any time. This can also be done automatically. Please note that deleting your browser history may also result in the deletion of the cookies set. If cookies are deactivated for our website, it may no longer be possible to use all the functions of the website to their full extent.

6. Duration for which personal data is stored

We delete personal data after the purpose for which it was collected has ceased to apply or after the expiry of the statutory retention periods, whichever is longer.

7. Recipients of personal data

As a matter of principle, we do not pass on any data. However, we use service providers who may gain knowledge of your data in the course of their work.
