“QUEER REFUGEES - WELCOME!?” ON THE SITUATION OF LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL AND TRANSGENDER REFUGEES
Sexual violence, racial exclusion, risk of deportation – beyond the “welcome culture”, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) refugees living in Germany often experience violations of their human rights.
Numerous initiatives, organisations and government actors endeavour to ensure safe arrival. Are LGBT-specific shelters a solution? What exactly does multiple discrimination mean in the lives of refugees? What challenges do we face in making refugees from the global South or East actually feel welcome? The panel discussion featured individuals with experience as refugees and as practitioners working with LGBT refugees. The event took place in English with simultaneous translation into German.
