Wer ist Walter?

“Walter” was the alias of a myth-enshrouded resistance fighter in Sarajevo, whose identity the Nazi occupiers were unable to find out. In our project, the question “Wer is Walter?” is symbolic of the observation that we in Europe often know little to nothing about the history(s) of resistance to Nazism and Nazi occupation during World War Two in other European countries.

Post-Yugoslav Space and European Memory Culture

The aim of the project is to strengthen the exchange and knowledge about resistance to Nazism in Europe and how it has been dealt with since 1945, and thus to contribute to the development of a European memory space. The differences and similarities in the history and memory of resistance to Nazism in Europe will be examined on the basis of four countries: Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Germany and France. By actively including post-Yugoslav countries, we want to promote the integration of a region often neglected in Europe as a full part of a European memory space.

Three complementary outputs

Concerning the reception of the resistance against the Nazi regime from 1945 to the present day, the project will focus on two dimensions: the scientific examination of the topic and its presentation in museums. The contents will be developed and presented by a team of experts from the four countries in four workshops and three conferences. At the end of the project there will be three concrete outputs: a scientific publication, an educational online portal and an exhibition in the History Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Education Agenda NS-Injustice

The Magazine of the Education Agenda NS-InjusticeThe Magazine of the Education Agenda NS-Injustice

The Education Agenda NS-Injustice started in autumn 2021 with two certainties: Firstly, the survivors are passing away; there are few chances today to meet eyewitnesses who can tell us first-hand about the atrocities committed by the National Socialists. Secondly, we are increasingly entering contexts in which boundaries between fiction and fact are blurred. Under these conditions, we are dependent on new ways of learning and innovative forms of conveyance in our critical examination of National Socialist injustice and in historical-political educational work. In the magazine we present the funding program, projects and current debates.
