War(s) in Europe. Shared Experience, Collective Memory?

The German-French-Bosnian pilot project focuses on the wars of the 20th and 21st centuries in Europe.

What do the project sponsor and the EVZ Foundation want to achieve with the project?

The German-French-Bosnian pilot project focuses on the wars of the 20th and 21st centuries in Europe: How do they determine our coexistence? How can European remembrance be shaped? Educators and young people are looking for answers to these questions in an international youth exchange and seminars. The ideas and methods developed in the project will be presented on a website.

Who participates and who does the project reach?

Stakeholders developed the project together with the Franco-German Youth Office in a co-creative process. “War(s) in Europe. Shared Experience, Collective Memory?” addresses and activates professionals in formal and non-formal education as well as young people aged 18 to 24 from the participating countries.

Why is the foundation supporting this particular project?

War in Europe, disinformation and rising nationalism pose challenges for international youth education work. The EVZ Foundation meets these challenges by helping to raise young people's awareness of social and political coexistence in Europe. This is achieved by addressing the wars in Europe on a personal, local and transnational level.

Remembering the wars in Europe: a contribution to a peaceful future? - Symposium on mediation in the context of international youth education work

The upcoming 80th anniversary of the massacre of Oradour-sur-Glane on 10 June, when 643 inhabitants were murdered by the German occupying forces June raises the question as to how the memory of such atrocities of war can be cultivated in youth education work in France, Germany, Bosnia and Herzegovina and beyond. To this end, the Franco-German Youth Office (FGYO) and the Foundation Remembrance, Responsibility and Future (EVZ) are organising a symposium in Oradour-sur-Glane and Limoges from 2 to 6 July in cooperation with the Regional Youth Cooperation Office (RYCO) and the Centre de la mémoire Oradour-sur-Glane (CMO).
