Leipzig's Theatre of the Young World (TDJW) and the Junge Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf Duisburg (German Opera at the Rhine Dusseldorf/Duisburg) are presenting a music theater project dedicated to youth opposition and resistance in the 24/25 season.
Packs, mobs, Fahrtenstenze, Navajos, Ruhr and Edelweiss Pirates: In National Socialist Germany, groups that did not identify with the state-prescribed youth culture emerged all over the country. In terms of their appearance, style of dress, music and leisure activities, but sometimes also with political actions, these groups came into conflict with National Socialist ideology and became a target for the Gestapo.
Under the supervision of director and musician Schorsch Kamerun, young people in Leipzig and Duisburg are working on the history of these groups and the role of youth culture then and now.
The TDJW, one of the most renowned German-language children's and youth theaters and one with a strong focus on new, interdisciplinary formats and participation, is partnering for the first time with the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf Duisburg as a major music theater, whose Young Opera, UFO and "Tanz mit!" (Dance with us!) also include a diverse program for young audiences.
A memorial site for the Leipzig Meuten as well as several artistic and educational formats will be created as part of the project.
