Trebnitz railway station was the scene of NS forced labor. The project Zwischenhalt Zwangsarbeit [Stopover: Forced Labor] commemorates transports and work assignments in the region with information and commemorative events.
From September 2025 to June 2026, Trebnitz Castle joined forces with the commemorative initiatives in the region to develop a concept entitled “Zwischenhalt Zwangsarbeit . Gedenkort Bahnhof Trebnitz [Stopover: Forced Labor. Memorial Site Trebnitz Railway Station] to commemorate forced labor in the village and in the rural area. We are delighted to have received funding from the EVZ Foundation under the MemoRails program. Trebnitz railway station is the focus of this project. This was where large numbers of forced laborers from Europe, mainly from Poland, arrived on their way to numerous farms and workplaces in the village and the wider region. The project is designed to commemorate the suffering of those affected and the crimes of National Socialism and to send out a clear signal for broad and committed commemorative work through a youth encounter on the subject, performances, an audio walk and erecting a memorial marker at Trebnitz railway station.
Since 1992, Trebnitz Castle in eastern Brandenburg has been an educational site with a political and cultural profile that has organized international exchange and participation projects. The association has around 50 members, including both individuals and institutions, such as Märkisch-Oderland district council, the municipality of Müncheberg or the municipality of Seelow. The educational and encounter center is a youth educational site recognized by the Federal State of Brandenburg. Trebnitz Castle is also recognized as the executing organization for political education by the Federal Agency for Civic Education and a member of its round table. Trebnitz Castle also acts as an association educational site for young people in the rural areas of Berlin-Brandenburg. Every year, projects for a total of around 1,500 children and young people are held in our premises.
