At the Foundation Remembrance, Responsibility and Future (EVZ), we appreciate your visit to the EVZ Academy and your interest in our work. We are committed to protecting your privacy when you use the EVZ Academy. Accordingly, we wish to provide you with information here on when we collect your data, which data are collected and how we use them.

2. EVZ Academy – a learning and networking platform

The EVZ Academy is based on the learning platform provided by Avendoo and offers various learning opportunities that can be accessed via the website https://academy.stiftung-evz.de/ following prior registration.

The EVZ Academy incorporates learning opportunities, event management and special functions, such as saving of learning progress, receiving of certificates, sending of personal messages to other users within the community and creating of user content. We use the data processed by the EVZ Academy in accordance with Art. 6(1) lit. b) GDPR based on the contract concluded between us and the user.

We wish to use our online offering to strengthen the purpose of the foundation and contribute to the modern education system and to critical examination of National Socialism and its consequences.

Furthermore, the website provides for interaction and community through features that enable, for example, communication via a forum and other networking activities.

If you wish to use our EVZ Academy, you have to register by entering your email address as well as a password and user name of your choice. There is no requirement to use your real name, pseudonyms are permitted. The aforementioned data are required, but all other information may be provided voluntarily. We use what is known as a double opt-in registration process. This means that you receive an email that requires you to confirm that you are the owner of the specified email address. The registration process is completed once you provide this verification. For user-relevant information, we send information to your account.

If you use the EVZ Academy, we save your data necessary for contract fulfilment until you delete your profile. We also save the data that you provide voluntarily while using the EVZ Academy, unless you erase these first. You can manage and amend all of the information in the protected member area. The legal basis is Art. 6(1), sentence 1, lit. b) GDPR.

If you use the EVZ Academy, your data may be accessible to other participants depending on the purpose you select. Any information posted in public groups is visible to all registered members of the EVZ Academy.

Users may use the EVZ Academy free of charge.

Personal data, such as name, email address, country and optional areas of interest, are always processed in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation and the country-specific provisions on data protection applicable to the Foundation Remembrance, Responsibility and Future (EVZ). We have prepared this Privacy Policy so that our institution can inform the public about the nature, scope and purpose of the personal data collected, used and processed. This Privacy Policy also informs data subjects of their rights.

The Foundation Remembrance, Responsibility and Future (EVZ) has implemented numerous technical and organisational measures to ensure end-to-end protection of the personal data processed via this website wherever possible. Nevertheless, security vulnerabilities may arise when transmitting data via the Internet and, therefore, complete protection cannot be guaranteed. For this reason, all data subjects also have the option of providing us with personal data by alternative means, such as by phone.

We conduct surveys with your consent pursuant to Art. 6(1) lit. a) GDPR. We process statistical data for these, such as age group, country and interest in the topics pursued by the EVZ Foundation and the learning formats on this website.

These surveys additionally serve the purpose of better preparation and conducting of our events and the improvement of future events.

You can also register for events via the EVZ Academy. The data processing is then conducted with your consent pursuant to Art. 6(1) lit. a) or on the basis of the underlying contractual relationship pursuant to Art. 6(1) lit. b) GDPR.

Through your registration, the same data are transmitted as with any website visit. We additionally process the data below for the following purposes:

We use what is known as a double opt-in process for registration for our events. This means that, following registration, we send you an email to the specified email address in which we ask you to confirm that you wish to take part in the event. If you fail to confirm your registration within 24 hours, your information is blocked and then automatically deleted after a week. We also save the IP address used and the dates and times of registration and confirmation. Pursuant to Art. 6(1) lit. f) GDPR, this process allows us to provide proof of your registration and, if relevant, clarify any possible misuse of your personal data. These purposes also constitute our legitimate interest at the same time.

The fields marked as non-optional must be completed for transmission of surveys or registrations. Further separately marked data are provided on a voluntary basis. Following your confirmation, we save your email address for the purpose of sending the registration or survey. The legal basis is Art. 6(1), sentence 1, lit. a) and b) GDPR.
