>>JULLER<<

INSPIRED BY THE LIFE OF JULIUS HIRSCH, THE GERMAN NATIONAL TEAM FOOTBALL PLAYER WITH JEWISH HERITAGE

One of the heroes of early football in Germany was the Karlsruhe striker Julius Hirsch, nicknamed “Juller”. Popular for his bent-over running style and feared for his shooting skills on the left or the right, Juller played on the national team for many years, was twice German champion, and took part in the 1912 Olympics. However, his great athletic successes could not prevent him from being socially marginalized, persecuted and ultimately murdered by the Nazi regime. The play was funded through the programme “Theatre Projects with Testimonies of Victims of National Socialism”
