Board of Trustees of the Foundation EVZ secures project funding for the coming years

Berlin, 10.12.2009
– The Foundation EVZ plans to provide annual funding of EUR 6.7 million for project support in the coming years. “The work of the Foundation in its three activity areas – A critical examination of history, Working for human rights, and Commitment to the victims of National Socialism – is now secure, despite the difficult financial situation,” said Dr Michael Jansen, Chairman of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees at the close of the its 27th meeting in Berlin.

“Support for model projects that benefit the surviving victims of National Socialism, especially those in Central and Eastern Europe and in Israel, remains a priority area of our funding activities. We can now continue to support and build the capacity of existing funding programmes working in the field of human rights and dedicated to learning the lessons of history,” said Dr Martin Salm, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Foundation.

As a result of the difficult conditions on the financial markets, the value of the Foundation’s assets fell by 7% in the last year. Nevertheless, around 320 projects were supported to the amount of EUR 7.2 million in 2009. The Board of Trustees of the Foundation has approved financial plans designed to secure a sustainable annual funding budget of EUR 6.7 million.
