Funding programme for human rights education through history learning

Human rights education aims to foster a culture of human rights enabling respect for as well as protection and assertion of human rights. The Foundation "Remembrance, Responsibility and Future" is launching the first call for applications to the funding programme "Teaching Human Rights". In this programme, the Foundation will support experienced educational facilities working in the area of human rights or history education, enabling them to develop innovative educational projects that focus on human rights education through history learning and to upgrade existing educational services on this theme.

The funding programme is part of a funding initiative comprising the following elements:

  • The funding programme “Teaching Human Rights” to promote education projects with appropriate project back-up.
  • International Academy "Remembrance and Human Rights". The second training academy for multipliers in educational work takes place in Berlin, March 14 –19, 2010. Deadline 20/01/2010.
  • Publications
  • International conferences. The conference "Rights that make us human beings – Human rights as an answer to historical and current injustice" was held in Nuremberg from 20 to 22 November 2008. Information about the conference is available on the website www.konferenz-nuernberg08.de.

Next Deadline for applications is in the beginning of 2010. The projected deadline for the next application is 2010. In the selection of projects, the board of directors will be assisted by a jury of experts.

  • Need for and necessity of the project
  • Relevance of the human rights problematic and historical connections
  • Convincing connection between human rights education and historical learning
  • Concrete project activities, methodological and didactic approaches and learning processes
  • Result and product-orientation and sustainability
  • Innovation, originality and adventurousness
  • Cost-effectiveness of the financing plan
  • Experience of the applicant in human rights education and historical learning
